From a Scaffolding Board into a Piece of Furniture

The scaffolding boards used to make our vintage wooden furniture turn each piece into a one-of-a-kind object. No board resembles another. The ravages of weather and use have created a singular patina on each of them over the years. As we meticulously and manually repurpose the time-worn wood, we take special steps to ensure that we do not spoil this special character in any way. We thoroughly remove any grime and left-over pieces of metal. The surface is then polished in a series of brushing and sanding processes. This work brings out the unique grain found in each piece of wood. The result is robust, durable furniture made of repurposed wood – furniture that will continue to tell its own story in your very home.

Design Furniture Made of Scaffolding Boards

For Loopwood, designer Bernd Benninghoff turns used wood from the construction industry into industrial-style minimalistic vintage furniture. The form and function draw their inspiration from the design of scaffolding – a homage to the original purpose of the wooden boards that are the heart and soul of our vintage furniture. The elegant frame made of sand-blasted, powder-coated steel rods draws on the design features of construction scaffolding and applies it to a home setting. Details such as integrated height adjusters and the incorporation of planks through sleeves from scaffolding effectively create a technical connection to the original product, the scaffolding.

Design and Functionality United

The vintage furniture made by Loopwood combines unique design with functionality. Our tables and benches are modular: The wooden boards are not laminated. They retain their classic dimension. The planks are inserted individually and without screws into the specially designed substructure. As a result, the furniture becomes especially flexible and is easy to assemble, dismantle and transport, just like real scaffolding. Broken down into its individual parts, the massive table can be easily carried up and down tight stairways. The furniture is simple and self-explanatory and can be assembled by one person using only an Allen key. The hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surfaces of our vintage furniture enable them to meet every challenge thrown their way by everyday life.
